Vail Film Festival Announces 2013 Film Program

The 10th anniversary Vail Film Festival, taking place March 28 31, 2013, in, Vail, Colo., is pleased to announce the complete film line-up for the 2013 Festival. The 2013 Festival will showcase 40 films from across the globe, including 17 feature-length films and 23 other films, including shorts, documentaries, animated and student films. The films will screen at Four Seasons Resort Vail, host hotel for the 2013 Festival, Cinebistro at Solaris, and the Vail Mountain School.

For the third consecutive year, Cadillac will utilize Solaris Plaza to create the "Cadillac Short Film Series," which invites the general public to view select festival programming without having to purchase a ticket. Vail residents and visitors will be invited inside three luxury Cadillac vehicles and treated to a selection of short films screened directly from the vehicles entertainment console.

The 10 th anniversary Vail Film Festival officially opens on Thursday evening, March 28 th, at the Vail Mountain School with Disconnect. Starring Jason Bateman and Alexander Skarsgard and directed by Henry Alex Rubin, Disconnect follows three distinct storylines about how people manage to find human connections in the 21 st century world of the Internet. Disconnect also features Paula Patton, Hope Davis, Kasi Lemmons, Max Thieriot, and the acting debut of Marc Jacobs.

The 2013 Friday night featured film will be The Iceman. Directed by Ariel Vromen, The Iceman features an all-star cast including James Franco, Chris Evans, Winona Ryder, Ray Liotta, David Schwimmer, Michael Shannon and Stephen Dorff. The Iceman tells the true story of Richard Kuklinski, who unbeknownst to his family, had been working as a hired assassin. Kuklinski's family did not learn of his real profession until after his arrest in 1986.

The Festival closes on Saturday night with Joe Swanberg's Drinking Buddies. Starring Anna Kendrick, Olivia Wilde, Jake Johnson and Ron Livingston, Drinking Buddies centers around co-workers (Wilde, Johnson) at a Chicago craft brewery whose friendship develops into a flirtation.

Other notable screenings include:

  • While We Were Here, directed by Kat Coiro, whichcenters on the relationship that develops between a married woman man she meets while working on a writing project. The film stars Kate Bosworth, Iddo Goldberg, Claire Bloom and Jamie Blackley.
  • From writer-director Joseph Levy, Spinning Plates is a documentary feature about three extraordinary restaurants and a look behind-the-scenes at the people that make them work.
  • A preview screening of director Mirra Bank's The Only Real Game, narrated by Oscar winner Melissa Leo, is a fighters' and dreamers' story about the magic of baseball for people in a troubled place.
  • Keeping the Promise: The Global Fight Against AIDS, directed by Justin Ervin, follows the thousands of advocates who gathered on the grounds of the Washington Monument in Washington D.C. to participate in the "Keep the Promise on HIV/AIDS" March & Rally.
