Universal's FIFTY SHADES OF GREY Trailer Draws Record-Breaking 100 Million Views in First Week

Deadline reports that Universal and Focus Features have declared the FIFTY SHADES OF GREY promo their biggest online trailer launch in history, with 100 million views across all platforms in just its first week.

According to Deadline, after its AM launch on July 24th, the trailer "garnered 98K mentions per hour on Twitter and was the #1 Google-trending topic in the US, Canada, the UK, France, and Germany".

The hype began with Beyonce's surprise Instagram preview of the trailer on July 19 (ahead of the official, full-length debut on TODAY). Just that 15 seconds of film drew 443,000 likes and more than 85,000 comments.

FIFTY SHADES OF GREY, the highly anticipated film based on the best-selling novels by E.L. James, stars Jamie Dornan as Christian Grey and Dakota Johnson as Anastasia Steele. It will hit theaters on Valentine's Day 2015.

Joining Dornan and Johnson in the cast are Luke Grimes as Elliot, Christian's brother; Victor Rasuk as José, Anastasia's close friend; Eloise Mumford as Kate, Anastasia's best friend and roommate; Marcia Gay Harden as Dr. Grace Trevelyan Grey, Christian's mother; Rita Ora as Mia, Christian's sister; Max Martini as Taylor, Christian's bodyguard; Callum Keith Rennie as Ray, Anastasia's stepfather; Jennifer Ehle as Carla, Anastasia's mother; and Dylan Neal as Bob, Carla's husband.

Fifty Shades of Grey is directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson and produced by Michael De Luca and Dana Brunettialongside E L James, the creator of the series. The screenplay for the film is by Kelly Marcel.

Fifty Shades of Grey is the hotly anticipated film adaptation of the bestselling book that has become a global phenomenon. Since its release, the "Fifty Shades" trilogy has been translated into 51 languages worldwide and sold more than 100 million copies in e-book and print-making it one of the biggest and fastest-selling book series ever.
