Tyler Perry to End 'Madea' in 2019

Tyler Perry has decided to end Madea in 2019, according to Variety.

20 years after Perry introduced the tough-talking grandmother to audiences he will be saying goodbye with a farewell stage tour and 2019's "Tyler Perry's a Madea Family Funeral."

On Monday, Perry was a guest on Bevy Smith's SiriusXM show "Bevelations" where he said, "I'm happy to kill that old bitch, I'm tired, man. I just don't want to be her age, playing her."

Perry also said that the film was already shot two years ago, but that he wanted to stagger the release after the Madea Halloween films in 2016 and 2017.

The Madea film franchise has earned over $500 million worldwide. Perry first introduced Madea in his 1999 play "I Can Do Bad All By Myself." He says Madea is based on his mother and Eddie Murphy's performance in "Nutty Professor II: The Klumps." Perry did not say, however, if the funeral in the film would be for Madea or not, and the film's poster shows Madea with her head down wearing mourning attire.
