Tom Cavanagh is the latest Broadway alum to join The CW's pilot THE FLASH.

According to Deadline, the actor will play Harrison Wells, the physics "rock star" behind Central City's S.T.A.R. Labs Particle Accelerator. After the lab explodes, he finds himself shunned but discovers "that his failed experiment had the unintended consequence of creating the world's fastest man."

The project from Warner Bros. will follow Barry Allen, also known as The Flash, "as a Central City assistant police forensic investigator who arrives in Starling City to look into a series of unexplained robberies that may have a connection to a tragedy in his past."

Cavanagh's upcoming big screen projects include The Games Maker, The Birder and the TV movie Lucky Duck. Among his past TV credits are Blue Bloods, The Goldbergs, Royal Pains, Scrubs, Trust Me, Eli Stone, Love Monkey, Ed, Providence and more. The actor has appeared on Broadway in 1989's Shenandoah and 2001's Urinetown.
