Telemundo Enterprises Awards Over $100,000 in 'Tu Education' Scholarships

El Poder En Ti, NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises' robust community initiative aimed at empowering viewers to take action for a better life, today announced the El Poder En Ti "Tu Educación Scholarships," which recognize and celebrate academic excellence, leadership skills, and the pursuit of higher education. The El Poder En Ti "Tu Educación Scholarships" will award more than $100,000 in scholarship grants to students in the community, together with partner organizations: The Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce, Hispanic Heritage Foundation, Hispanic Women's Corporations, LULAC National Education Service Centers, Inc. (LNESC), National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ), and Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE).

"NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises is committed to developing opportunities and providing resources on one of the most critical issues affecting Hispanics today, which is education," said Rocky Egusquiza, Vice President, Community Affairs, NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises. "The cost of higher education is continually rising and we are pleased to partner with these respected organizations to empower Hispanics in educational attainment and focus on closing the Latino student achievement gap."

Scholarship opportunities include:

• Multiple scholarships totaling $20,000 to high school seniors who have excelled in both the classroom and within the community nationwide, in partnership with the Hispanic Heritage Foundation Youth Awards. Their achievements are celebrated in various categories which include: Business & Entrepreneurship, Community Service, Education, Engineering, Healthcare & Science, Mathematical Sciences and Parent Award. Submissions will open in the fall.

• One $10,000 scholarship to a graduate student admitted or currently enrolled to the University of Arizona College of Medicine demonstrating leadership and career interest in the field of medicine, in collaboration with the Hispanic Women's Corporation. Deadline is June 15, 2017.

• 10 $5,000 scholarships to qualifying students based on academic performance, professional goals, and interest in the entertainment industry, in partnership with the LULAC National Education Service Centers, Inc. (LNESC). Submissions will open in the summer.

• Five $2,000 scholarships to graduating seniors from a Miami-Dade County public school intending to pursue a career in Broadcast Journalism, Communications, Electronic Media or Digital Media, or Journalism, at a South Florida College or University, in collaboration with The Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce. Deadline is March 31. 2017.
• Five $2,000 scholarships to encourage academic excellence and leadership development among Hispanic and Latino college students in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) disciplines, in partnership with the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE). Qualifying students must be enrolled full-time; majoring in STEM courses toward a Bachelor's or Master's degree, and must be an active SHPE member with demonstrated leadership and community involvement. Must be attending college or universities in the following cities: Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, and Phoenix. Deadline is July 31, 2017.

• $1,500 to a journalism major student enrolled in a college or University in commemoration of Jonathan Camuy, a Telemundo employee, active NAHJ member, and victim of the Orlando massacre shooting, in collaboration with the National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ). Submissions will open in the fall.
