THE WALKING DEAD returns tonight, Oct. 11 on AMC, and the cast says it's the most intense season yet.

"The zombie count is the biggest we've ever had. This season, in just six episodes, we've had 2,500 zombies," says star Andrew Lincoln. "It feels like every single episode is like a season finale. The threat we face this season will either be walker or human or internal struggle, adding a lot more drama to the show."

He adds that he has yet to see the show at all, because it may negatively affect his performance.

"I get enjoyment and great satisfaction from acting the scenes out with so many of the actors that there's no reason for me to watch my performance. It just doesn't help me as an actor. If I watch something and I like something I do, I may try to replicate it and a sense of self-consciousness forms. I do not want to put myself into that frame of mind."

As for die-hard fans, 16-year-old Chandler Riggs (Carl), has had his share of interesting encounters. "I've had people come up to me and start crying and one person even passed out," he says, "It's weird. I don't know how to act. I just say, 'Uh, thank you.'"

Melissa McBride, who plays the only female character still living, Carol, says she has enjoyed seeing her character grow.

"[Carol]'s now got the courage to do things that she may have only thought of in her mind back before any of this started. Like the other women in the show, she's complex. She's very sensitive, she has feelings and at the same time she's empowering, strong and brave." She adds that this multi-dimensional portrayal is common to the show, "Female characters don't always have to be portrayed in one way. Women are complex. Women are interesting. Women are just as capable as the men and that's what I love so much about the show. The female characters are portrayed just like in real life. I'm happy that fans are resonating with her."
