THE NIGHTLY SHOW WITH LARRY WILMORE Premieres to 963,000 Viewers

By:

According to Deadline, Comedy Central's THE NIGHTLY SHOW WITH LARRY WILMORE premiered to 963,000 viewers on Monday.

Compared to @MIDNIGHT's nightly numbers of 565,000, Wilmore is starting off nicely. Colbert's average ratings per episode, however, were closer to 1.67 million,

Per the report:

"Wilmore's opening night audience looked like this: 577,000 in the 18-49 demo, 349,000 in the 18-34 age bracket, and 465,000 were aged 25-54 - aka the news demo. For comparison sake, The Colbert Report nabbed 630,000 in the demo, 365,000 aged 18-34 and 539,000 in the news demo. And, @midnight's tally showed 391,000 demo viewers, a much-closer-to-Wilmore 268,000 18-34 year olds, and 314,000 viewers in the news demo."

Continuing in Comedy Central's grand tradition of producing groundbreaking late night formats,
"The Nightly Show" will provide viewers with Larry Wilmore's distinct point of view and comedic take on current events and pop culture from a perspective largely missing in the late-night television landscape. Hosted by Wilmore, the series will feature a diverse panel of minority voices currently underrepresented in comedy and television.

"The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore" was created by Jon Stewart and will be produced by Stewart's Busboy Productions with Stewart, Wilmore and Rory Albanese serving as Executive Producers, Amy Ozols as Co-Executive Producer and Sue Fellows as Supervising Producer. The series' Head Writer is Robin Thede.

Well-known to fans of "The Daily Show" for his role as the "Senior Black Correspondent" on "The Best F*&#ing News Team Ever!," Larry Wilmore (twitter: @thelarrywilmore) joined "The Daily Show" in 2006 after an award-winning career in television writing and producing in the early 90s. Wilmore created the critically-acclaimed and award-winning "The Bernie Mac Show," which won the Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series in 2002, and co-created the animated show "The PJs" with Eddie Murphy. He has also written for shows such as "In Living Color," "The Fresh Prince of Bel Air" and "The Jamie Foxx Show." Wilmore was a consulting producer on NBC's "The Office," also appearing in a few episodes. Most recently, he served as executive producer/showrunner for the launch of ABC's hit comedy "black-ish."
