Deadline reports that the upcoming dramedy film THE LAST WORD, starring Shirley MacLaine and Amanda Seyfried, will hit theaters in the U.S. via Bleecker Street.

Written by Stuart Fink and directed by Mark Wellington, THE LAST WORD "centers on MacLaine as a retired businesswoman who wants to control everything around her, including her own obituary, so she writes her own to ensure her LIFE STORY is told her way. Seyfried portrays a young writer at the local newspaper who takes up the task of finding out the truth about MacLaine's character -- resulting in a reawakening of passions for MacLaine's character, and a life altering friendship for Seyfried's."

Broadway vet and Drama Desk nominee Shirley MacLaine has appeared onstage in ME AND JULIET, THE PAJAMA GAME, SHIRLEY MACLAINE and SHIRLEY MACLAINE ON BROADWAY. She has recently guest starred on TV in DOWNTON ABBEY and GLEE and will soon appear on the big screen in JIM BUTTON, MEN OF GRANITE and WILD OATS. Among her recent film credits are ELSA & FRED, THE SECRET LIFE OF WALTER MITTY, BERNIE and more.

Seyfried just made her off-Broadway debut in THE WAY WE GET BY. She played 'Sophie' in the film adaptation of MAMMA MIA! and 'Cosette' in the recent movie version of LES MISERABLES. Among her upcoming projects are LOVE THE COOPERS, FLYING HORSE and YOUNG AMERICANS, as well as the TV series TWIN PEAKS. She recently appeared on the big screen in FATHERS AND DAUGHTERS, PAN, TED 2, A MILLION WAYS TO DIE IN THE WEST and more.
