Swoon's SUBMERGED COLLABORATIONS to Feature NY Premiere of FLOOD TIDE and More, 6/12

On Thursday, June 12 from 6:30 p.m. until 9:30 p.m., the Brooklyn Museum presents Art Off the Wall: Swoon's "Submerged Collaborations," a night of film and performance inspired by the artists' site-specific installation Submerged Motherlands.

The evening begins in the Cantor Auditorium with the New York premiere of Flood Tide, a fictional film set within Swoon's Swimming Cities project and directed by her frequent collaborator Todd Chandler, followed by a talk and music performances.

Screening: Flood Tide

Flood Tide (Todd Chandler, 2013, 70 min) is a collaboration with the Swimming Cities of Switchback Sea; a project dreamed up by the artist Swoon and built by a group of artists and performers who floated seven large sculptures down the Hudson River. Flood Tide interweaves documentation of this journey with layers of fiction, mythology, and oral history to create a film that both documents and reimagines the real-life project. Talk: Swoon and her collaborators

Swoon and her collaborators on several large-scale projects, will provide insights into their work and how an ambitious community can create the synergy to expand possibilities for action.

Music: The Submerged Motherlands Orchestra

The program ends with a silent procession from the auditorium to the Cantor Rotunda for a performance in sound and light. The performance features The Submerged Motherlands Orchestra, with singer-songwriter Mirah, musician Marshall LaCount (of the bands xxPRSNxx and Dark Dark Dark), Todd Chandler, the band North America, and violinist Chloe Swanter.

Admission: Contribution $12; students with valid I.D. and seniors $8. Free to members and children under 12 accompanied by an adult. Group tours or visits must be arranged in advance by calling extension 234.
