Steven Spielberg Confirms Colin Trevorrow Will Write and Direct The Next JURASSIC WORLD Installment

According to Entertainment Weekly, The man who rebooted Universal's dinosaur franchise is coming back for its next installment.

"Colin Trevorrow is going write and direct the third Jurassic World story," executive producer Steven Spielberg exclusively told EW. Spielberg will also return as an executive producer on the third World.

Trevorrow co-wrote and directed 2015's Jurassic World, which went on to gross $1.67 billion worldwide. The writer-director also penned the script for the upcoming Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom with his original World co-writer Derek Connolly.

As previously announced, Trevorrow will collaborate with Emily Carmichael (Pacific Rim: Uprising) on a script for the third World based off a story by Trevorrow and Connolly. Producers Frank Marshall and Pat Crowley will also be back for the upcoming World.

The next installment of the franchise, JURASSIC WORLD: FALLEN KINGDOM hits theaters on June 22, 2018. In this upcoming film, It's been four years since theme park and luxury resort Jurassic World was destroyed by dinosaurs out of containment. Isla Nublar now sits abandoned by humans while the surviving dinosaurs fend for themselves in the jungles.

When the island's dormant volcano begins roaring to life, Owen (Chris Pratt) and Claire (Bryce Dallas Howard) mount a campaign to rescue the remaining dinosaurs from this extinction-level event. Owen is driven to find Blue, his lead raptor who's still missing in the wild, and Claire has grown a respect for these creatures she now makes her mission. Arriving on the unstable island as lava begins raining down, their expedition uncovers a conspiracy that could return our entire planet to a perilous order not seen since prehistoric times.
