Famed shoe designer Steve Madden's time in prison for conspiracy to commit money laundering and securities fraud gave him a new sense of purpose, he tells Faith Salie in an interview for CBS SUNDAY MORNING WITH CHARLES OSGOOD to be broadcast Feb. 23, 2014 (9:00 AM ET) on the CBS Television Network.

"I was hoping that I could contribute and not lose my talent," Madden says of restarting his Life After serving 31 months in prison. "And also, you're changed. I felt the need - you want to give back. You know, maybe there's a great purpose for everything."

The stock deal that resulted in his prison sentence is portrayed in the recent hit film, "The Wolf of Wall Street." Madden says greed led to the deal and he deeply regrets what happened. "You know, we were lying to ourselves saying we weren't doing anything wrong," Madden says. "And a lot of people got hurt because of what we did."

Madden also talks with Salie about his childhood, how his shoe empire got started and also how romance blossomed with one of his employees - Wendy Ballew - while he was in prison. The two are now married with three children.

"The romance started when I was in prison," Madden tells Salie. "And I looked forward to her visits. Because, you know, it's such a heart-breaking thing to be in prison. And she made it better for me."

CBS SUNDAY MORNING is broadcast Sundays (9:00-10:30 ET) on the CBS Television Network. Rand Morrison is the executive producer.
