Simon Cowell spoke to reporters yesterday about the future of the FOX singing competition THE X FACTOR. The judge and mentor revealed that changes were in store, including new judges and a new role for himself.

The tight T-shirt-wearing music industry exec shared that he fully expects The X Factor to appear on next season's programming schedule at FOX, however, the show itself may be cut back to one night instead of the current two-night per week format. Other changes are also being discussed to keep the show current and interesting among a sea of competitors.

Cowell also hinted that changes may be in the works for the current judge's panel, comprised of himself, Demi Lovato, Kelly Rowland and Paulina Rubio. He teased that he already has his eye on prospective panelists but declined to name who they may be. In addition, he envisions "a different kind of role," for himself though added, "we haven't discussed that yet."

Ratings for the current season have dropped compared to the show's first two outings. Said Simon of season three, "The show started off okay. I thought the was four-chair section was terrific. I thought the early live shows were okay. And the last two weeks have been amazing."

He added, "As a series, particularly because of the talent - and I'm biased but it's true - because of what [contestant duo] Alex & Sierra have achieved on iTunes over the last couple weeks - I've never seen this happen with a contestant - the show has achieved what it set out to achieve, to find a star."

The winner of The X Factor Season 3 will be announced on the finale this Thursday.
