Shirley MacLaine, Christopher Plummer Set for ELSA & FRED Remake

Shirley MacLaine and Christopher Plummer have officially joined the remake of the Spanish-Argentine romantic comedy, ELSA & FRED. Michael Radford (IL POSTINO) is set to direct.

MacLaine plays Elsa, a fun-loving retiree in New Orleans whose livelihood is stifled when a straight-laced widower (Plummer) moves into her apartment buidling.

The 2005 Spanish-Argetine was original took place in Madrid, and was written and directed by Marcos Carnevale, featuring China Zorrilla and Manuel Alexandre - and took in a huge take at the Argentinian box office.

"I am thrilled to be working with two of the greatest screen actors in the history of cinema," Radford said in a statement. "My aim is to do justice to this great movie and bring it to the wider public it deserves."

A release date for ELSA & FRED has not yet been set.
