Lea Michele Tweeted the news today that her friend from Spring Awakening, Phoebe Strole, will be joining the cast of Glee for its upcoming fifth season on FOX.

Michele wrote: "Such amazing news that two of my very best friends are going to be on #Glee this year! @ddlovato & @PhoebeStrole! Thank you @MrRPMurphy! <3"

Strole will play 'Penny Owen', a college sophomore and Sam's new love interest in the musical dramedy's new season.

Strole just appeared onstage in The Madrid this year at Manhattan Theatre Club off-Broadway. Her TV credits include Rescue Me, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, 30 Rock and Mercy. She has appeared on the big screen in Descent, Hamlet 2 and My One and Only.

As BroadwayWorld previously reported, the fifth season of Glee is shaping up to be a musical dream come true as Adam Lambert and now Demi Lovato are set to appear and perform together.

The X Factor judge will portray 'Dani' described as "a NYC-based struggling artist friend of Rachel and Santana's. She will also interact frequently with Adam Lambert's incoming character, and the pair will have several musical numbers together."

The actress will be appearing in at least six episodes, starting with the show's October 3rd episode which will feature a musical tribute to the Beatles.

The guest role will be the first major acting role for the artist since she appeared in Disney Channel's 'Sonny with a Chance.' Her other acting credits include the Camp Rock films and Prison Break and Grey's Anatomy

Glee returns with Season 5 on Thursday, Sept. 26 at 9/8c.
