The Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen Center for Thought and Culture (www.SheenCenter.org), is proud to announce that it will host a special opening event screening of Paramount Pictures' CAPTIVE and Q&A with the film's stars David Oyelowo and Kate Mara, as well as producer Terry Botwick, the real-life subjects of the movie Ashley Smith and mother of Brian Nichols, Claritha Nichols. The panel discussion will be moderated by CBS THIS MORNING co-anchor, Gayle King. The event celebrates the opening night of three weeks of dynamic and diverse grand opening festivities at the new Sheen Center.

The screening will take place at 7:30 PM on Monday, September 14th, at The Sheen Center, located at 18 Bleecker Street (Corner of Elizabeth Street).

Starring Golden Globe nominee David Oyelowo (who portrayed Martin LUTHER King Jr. in last year's SELMA) and Kate Mara (HOUSE OF CARDS), CAPTIVE is based on a miraculous true story that drew the attention of the entire nation. It tells the story of Ashley Smith (played by Mara) and Brian Nichols (Oyelowo). After being taken hostage by Brian in her own apartment, Ashley turns to Rick Warren's inspirational book, "The Purpose Driven Life," for guidance. In reading from the book, Ashley not only finds purpose in her own life, but helps Brian find a more peaceful resolution to a harrowing situation. CAPTIVE is rated PG-13 and opens in theater's nationwide on September 18.

"We are thrilled to be able to raise the curtain on the Sheen Center with a film like CAPTIVE," says William Spencer Reilly, Executive Director of The Sheen Center. "Not only is it a powerful film, but its message of hope, healing and personal redemption really resonates with the Sheen Center's mission of promoting works that affirm that life is worth living."

Named after the late Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen, best known for his popular radio and TV ministry in the 1950s and 60s, The Sheen Center is the newest arts center in New York City and will showcase works that affirm the highest values of the human spirit through the performing and visual arts, symposia, lectures and exhibits. The state-of-the-art complex has a 274-seat proscenium theater equipped with five-camera high-definition livestream capability and a multi-track recording studio with thirty-two onstage inputs; an 80-seat BLACK BOX theater; four rehearsal studios; and an art gallery.

In addition to the special opening event screening and Q&A with CAPTIVE stars, The inaugural programming includes: An Evening with Jeannie and Jim Gaffigan (September 15), offering a sneak peek of clips from upcoming episodes of the TV Land series "The Jim Gaffigan Show"; a performance by internationally renowned concert pianist Elaine Kwon (September 26); "Step into the Light," (September 21) a showcase of the fastest rising talent on Broadway directed by Ted Sperling, featuring Aaron Lazar (The Last Ship), Alysha Umphress (On The Town), Analisa Leaming (The King and I) and David St. Louis (Side Show); a stage production of The Amish Project, a one-woman play about the 2006 West Nickel Mines Schoolhouse shooting, hailed by The New York Times as "remarkable and compelling"; a series of thought-provoking panels with special guests such as 108th Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Cardinal Timothy Dolan, Archbishop of New York; an art walk featuring contemporary and sacred works; and more.
