A Shazam! sequel is officially in the works, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Henry Gayden, the original screenwriter, will return for the sequel. Director David F. Sandberg and producer Peter Safran are also expected to return.
Shazam! centers on teenager Billy Batson (Asher Angel), who can transform into an adult superhero (Zachary Levi), and who faces off against the villainous Dr. Sivana (Mark Strong) with the help of his foster brother (Jack Dylan Grazer).
The film opened with a domestic total of $53.4 million. Internationally, Shazam! made an estimated $102 million from 79 international markets.
Gayden previously wrote the 2014 film Earth to Echo. Up next, he is working on tthe Phil Lord and Chris Miller sci-fi movie Last Human.
