According to The Hollywood Reporter, Robert Redford has entered negotiations to join Disney's live-action and CGI reboot of PETE'S DRAGON, directed by David Lowery from a script he co-wrote with Toby Halbrooks.

The film is a remake of the 1977 classic that followed Pete and his best friend Elliot, who just happens to be a dragon. While the original film was a musical, sources tell the site that the latest incarnation will not feature music. CGI technology will be used to bring 'Elliot' to life on screen.

Oakes Fegley will star as 'Pete', with MATILDA's Oona Laurence as a newly created character, 'Natalie'.

If cast, Redford will play "a local who tells tall tales involving dragons that no one believes."

Redford recently appeared on the big screen in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, is portraying the iconic Dan Rather in the upcoming film Truth, and will star as Bill Bryson in A Walk in the Woods. The actor has appeared on Broadway in Barefoot in the Park, Sunday in New York, Little Moon of Alban, The Highest Tree and Tall Story.
