According to TVLine, despite announcing that he was leaving the show in May, Randy Jackson is in talks to return to AMERICAN IDOL, but in a new role. The report says that Jackson will replace record-producer mentor Jimmy Iovine, who has been with the show for three seasons.

At the end of the 2013 season, judges Mariah Carey and Nicki Manaj left the panel along with Jackson, leaving country superstar Keith Urban as the only remaining judge.

Reports earlier this week indicated that IDOL bosses and former judge Jennifer Lopez were close to announcing the "Jenny From the Block" singer's return.
