Over 10 Million Viewers Turn to NBC NIGHTLY NEWS for Sandy Coverage

In the week that saw hurricane Sandy devastate portions of the east coast, more Americans turned to "NBC Nightly News with BrIan Williams" for comprehensive coverage of the storm's path, aftermath, and recovery efforts than any other newscast.

For the week ending November 2, 2012, the NBC broadcast averaged 10.063 million total viewers, +1,462,000 more than ABC "World News'" 8.601 million, and +2,670,000 more than CBS "Evening News'" 7.393 million, according to Nielsen Media Research data.

NOTE: Due to Hurricane Sandy, the intab levels for the National People Meter Sample are lower than normal, and somewhat geographically skewed. Viewing trends may be impacted due to the storm.

"NBC Nightly News" Total Viewers:

Nightly delivered 10.063 million total viewers, +1,462,000 (+17%) more than ABC World News and +2,670,000 (+36%) more than CBS Evening News.
Nightly delivered a 6.6/12 Household rating, ahead of ABC's 5.7/11 and CBS' 5.0/9.
Nightly had its best total viewer delivery since the week of July 30, 2012 (first week of London Olympics), and best viewer advantage over World News since the week of August 6, 2012 (week #2 of Olympics).
Nightly has won for 164 consecutive weeks, and in 211 of the past 212 weeks in total viewers.
Versus the 4Q'12-to-date average, Nightly was up in homes (+27%) and total viewers (+30% or +2,238,000).
Versus the same week last season, Nightly was up in homes (+14%) and total viewers (+16% or +1,391,000).
Season-to-date, Nightly leads World News by +601,000 total viewers.


"NBC Nightly News" A25-54:

Nightly delivered a 2.7 A25-54 rating, +7 tenths ahead of ABC's 2.0 rating and +9 tenths more than CBS's 1.8 rating.
Nightly had its best A25-54 rating since the week of July 30, 2012 (first week of London Olympics).
Among A25-54 (000), Nightly beat World News by +820,000 viewers, the best advantage since the week of August 6, 2012 (second week of London Olympics).
Nightly has topped World News in A25-54 (000) for 206 consecutive weeks.
Versus the 4Q'12-to-date average, Nightly was up in rating W/M/A25-54 (+47%/+56%/+50%).
Versus the same week last season, Nightly was up in rating W/M/A25-54 (+22%/+32%/+29%).
Season-to-date, Nightly leads World News by +378,000 A25-54 viewers.
