NBC Sports Group tonight won seven Sports Emmy Awards for excellence in sports television production, including two apiece for NFL and Triple Crown horse racing coverage, individual honors for Bob Costas and Mike "Doc" Emrick, and one award for its NASCAR promotional campaign. The awards were presented by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences at Frederick P. Rose Hall, Home of Jazz at Lincoln Center.
Sunday Night Football, primetime television's No. 1 show for five consecutive years, won for Outstanding Live Sports Series for the seventh time in eight years. NBC's NFL production team also won for Outstanding Playoff Coverage for its presentation of the Green Bay Packers-Arizona Cardinals NFC Divisional Playoff overtime thriller. NBC Sports Group earned two Sports Emmys for its coverage of American Pharoah's historic 2015 Triple Crown run: winning for Outstanding Camera Work for the entire Triple Crown series, and taking honors for Outstanding Open/Tease for the 141st Kentucky Derby, narrated by Ashley Judd. Bob Costas was named Outstanding Sports Personality-Studio Host, his 27th career Emmy, and fifth in the past six years. Costas is the host of Football Night in America, the most-watched weekly studio show in sports. Mike "Doc" Emrick, who leads NBC Sports' NHL broadcast team, won his third consecutive Emmy and fourth in six years for Outstanding Sports Personality-Play by Play.A complete list of winners will be made available at www.emmyonline.org.
