Assistance is based on Headland's play of the same name, about an idealistic assistant and her attempt to balance her life in the face of an overbearing boss.
Playwrights Horizons presented the New York premiere of the play, directed by Trip Cullman and playing February through March this year. The cast featured Michael Esper, Sue Jean Kim, Virginia Kull, Lucas Near-Verbrugghe, Amy Rosoff and Tony Award nominee Bobby Steggert.
Executive producers for the show include Jessica Elbaum, Owen Burke, Will Ferrell and Adam McKay.
In addition to Assistance, Headland has penned the screenplays for Bachelorette (also a play) and About Last Night, which is in pre-production for Screen Gems. She has also written for the TV series Terriers.
