Mindy Kaling and Priyanka Chopra Jonas Will Join Forces For Indian Wedding Film

According to Deadline, Universal has won the rights to an untitled comedy pitched by Mindy Kaling, Priyanka Chopra and Dan Goor.

The film will be written by Kaling will write and Goor and the former will potentially direct.

Goor is producing with Kaling's Kaling International, Chopra's Purple Pebble Pictures, and 3Arts' Howard Klein.

The film will revolve around a big wedding in India, and take place in both India and America. It has been described as "Crazy Rich Asians meets My Big Fat Greek Wedding."

Heather Morris and Nina Anand Aujla will be the exec producers.

Kaling started out as a staff writer on NBC's The Office, later becoming an executive producer on the series where she also played Kelly Kapoor. She went on to create, executive produce and star in the The Mindy Project, which ran for six seasons, three on FOX and three on Hulu.

Kaling's recent feature film Late Night, in which she serves as producer, writer and star, made a strong debut at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival and was acquired by Amazon Studios for a record-breaking North American distribution deal.

Chopra is an Indian actress, singer, film producer, and the winner of the MISS WORLD 2000 pageant. One of India's highest-paid and most popular celebrities, Chopra has received numerous awards, including a National Film Award and five Filmfare Awards. In 2016, the Government of India honoured her with the Padma Shri, and Time named her one of THE 100 most influential people in the world. In 2017 and 2018, Forbes listed her among the World's 100 Most Powerful Women.
