Michael Engler to Direct NBC's THE GILDED AGE

NBC has hired Michael Engler to direct the first episode of its long-in-development series THE GILDED AGE, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The Gilded Age comes from Downton Abbey creator Julian Fellowes heads the new series that has been at NBC since 2012.THE GILDED AGE got a formal greenlight this January when NBC ordered 10 episodes straight to series.

Engler, a three-time Emmy nominee, will direct the two-hour premiere and serve as an executive producer.

THE GILDED AGE is set in 1880s New York and will center on Marian Brook, a young woman who sets about infiltrating a wealthy neighboring family, which includes railroad baron George Russell; his wife, Bertha; and their rakish son Larry.

Production on the series is set to begin in the spring and is set to premiere sometime in 2019.
