Talking to Yahoo! Movies, original STAR WARS hero Mark Hamill talked about welcoming his smaller role in THE FORCE AWAKENS after being absent from the first trailer.

"This is about the new generation of characters; I think that's the most important thing. It's the opening act of a whole new approach to the storytelling," Hamill said. "I never thought I'd be involved in it again, period."

Hamill continued: "And then when George [Lucas] said that they wanted to do more, I rightly assumed that it wouldn't be our story, because we had a beginning, a middle and an end. [The new movies] must be our offspring and the current generation, with us there lending the kind of support that Peter Cushing and Alec Guinness did in the original."

J.J. Abrams' highly anticipated film STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS will star John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, and Max von Sydow. The actors will join original stars of the saga, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker.

The film is being directed by J.J. Abrams from a screenplay by Lawrence Kasdan and Abrams. Kathleen Kennedy, J.J. Abrams, and Bryan Burk are producing, and John Williams returns as the composer. The movie opens worldwide on December 18, 2015.
