Malcolm D. Lee to Direct Hip-Hop Comedy REAL TALK at Universal

Director Malcolm D. Lee is reuniting with Universal Studios for a new comedy, according to Variety.

"Real Talk" is a love letter to old-school hip-hop with a script by Radha Blank, whose credits include episodes of EMPIRE and She's Gotta Have it.

The story tells of an old-school rapper who attempts to reunite his group to reclaim their past glory as one of the most influential hip-hop acts ever.

Lee will direct and produce the film via his own Blackmaled Productions.

Blackmaled's Melanie N. Clark will supervise along with Universal executive vice president of production Kristin Lowe and creative executive Mika Pryce.

Lee is known for black-centric comedies such as Undercover Brother to Barbershop: The Next Cut. He directed Universal's Girls Trip. His most recent film, Night School, which stars Kevin Hart and Tiffany Haddish, will be released on Friday.
