MTV to Host 2017 College Signing Day Featuring Former First Lady Michelle Obama

On Friday May 5th, MTV will host the 2017 College Signing Day featuring former First Lady Michelle Obama. The event will be held at New York City's Public Theater with more than 200 students from across New York City high schools. This is the 4th consecutive year that Mrs. Obama has celebrated College Signing Day. Mrs. Obama will be joined by actors, singers, athletes and stars including: Nick Cannon, Keri Russell, Bella Hadid, Jidenna, Michael B. Jordan, Zoe Kravitz, Emeka Okafor, Mathew Rhys, Robin Roberts and more.

College Signing Day celebrates high school seniors choosing to pursue higher education at a professional training program, a community college, or a four-year college or university and continues Mrs. Obama's efforts to inspire young people to pursue their education past high school. In addition to Mrs. Obama's event in New York, more than 1,000 College Signing Day events have been planned in nearly every state by communities, students and organizations committed to helping students pursue higher education. Mrs. Obama is encouraging people across the country to join her in marking College Signing Day by wearing college apparel and sharing the importance of higher education on social media through #CollegeSigningDay and #BetterMakeRoom.

Livestream will be available via MTV's Facebook page at www.Facebook.com/MTV.

Mrs. Obama's college access work now lives at Civic Nation, a non-profit focused on innovative engagement and awareness initiatives. The organization now includes members of Mrs. Obama's Reach Higher and Better Make Room teams. This is the second consecutive year that MTV will host the event in conjunction with Viacom's Get Schooled initiative.

As part of her Reach Higher initiative at the White House, Mrs. Obama has hosted College Signing Day events in Harlem in 2016 with MTV, in Detroit, Michigan in 2015 and in San Antonio, Texas in 2014.
