MSNBC Ranks as No. 2 Cable News Network August

MSNBC was the #2 cable news network for the month of August in the key Primetime and morning time periods, according to data from Nielsen.
For the month, MSNBC topped CNN in Monday-Friday Primetime among both total viewers (545,000 vs. CNN's 467,000) and A25-54 (149,000 vs. CNN's 133,000). MSNBC also ranked #2 in Monday - Sunday primetime, beating CNN in both total viewers and A25-54 (173,000 vs. CNN's 134,000). MSNBC's "Morning Joe" tops CNN's "New Day" for the second consecutive month among both total viewers (381,000) and A25-54 (125,000). August was the lowest month for "New Day" since the premiere in June, with 277,000 total viewers and 97,000 A2554. MSNBC beat all competitors for the month with the younger demo of A18-34, ranking #1 in sales day and sales prime, daytime (M-F 9a-5p), Monday-Sunday primetime, weekend sales prime, and west coast weekday primetime.Below are additional MSNBC program and time period highlights for August:"Morning Joe" continues to top CNN's "New Day" among total viewers and A25-54. Despite highly promoted exclusive bookings including President Obama, Prince William and Mark Zuckerberg, "New Day" hit a new weekly ratings low week for August 19th with 78,000 A25-54. "New Day" is also down -23% among A25-54 from July 2013, the show's first full month on the air.
