Luke Combs Reveals How He Tracked Down Tracy Chapman for Grammys Duet
The country star described the process of connecting with the reclusive singer-songwriter for the televised performance.
Luke Combs sat down with Willie Geist in Nashville for SUNDAY SITDOWN LIVE, an event held at City Winery, where he detailed how he tracked down Tracy Chapman to arrange their now-famous duet of her song 'Fast Car' at the Grammys. Combs walked the audience through the steps he took to reach the notoriously private artist, giving fans rare insight into how the collaboration came together behind the scenes.
The conversation centered on Combs' effort to connect with Chapman, whose original recording of 'Fast Car' became a defining hit decades ago before Combs' own cover reintroduced the song to a new generation of listeners. His account of the outreach process highlighted the care he took in approaching an artist known for staying out of the spotlight.
Combs shared the story in front of fans gathered for the live taping, offering context that added depth to the widely watched Grammys performance.
The sit-down took place as part of the SUNDAY SITDOWN LIVE series, with City Winery serving as the venue sponsor for the Nashville event featuring Combs and Geist.
