AMERICA'S GOT TALENT host Nick Cannon took to Instagram this week to reveal that life indeed imitates art as he begins classes as a freshman at Howard University in Washington DC.

Many will recall that Cannon starred in the 2002 film DRUMLINE, in which he portrayed a marching band drummer at the fictitious Atlanta A&T University, similar to Howard.

In a recent interview with ET, Cannon shared that he'll be majoring in "strategic legal and management communications." He explained, "It's something I've always wanted to do, and I truly feel like it's the next stage in my life.Entertainment is outstanding but I truly want to utilize my voice, I want to be a part of the community, and I'm always encouraging young people and being an advocate for education, so I need to make sure I get mine first."
