TVline reports that Laurie Metcalf will star in an upcoming medical comedy pilot for HBO titled GETTING ON. The actress joins cast members Alex Borstein and Niecy Nash on the project.

The pilot is from Mark. V. Olsen ('Big Love') and Will Scheffer and is based on the popular BBC comedy of the same name. The half-hour comedy will focus on "doctors, nurses and administrators working in the women’s geriatric wing of a hospital." Metcalf will portray Dr. Jenna James, the stressed out temporary Director of Medicine at the hospital. Her character is described as "an odd duck who lacks any and all social skills."

'Family Guy's Borstein will portray the head ward nurse, Dawn Forchette while Nash will play Marta Ortley, described as "a big-hearted practical nurse who only recently returned to this line of work after the real estate market crashed."

Three-time Emmy Award winner and Tony nominee Laurie Metcalf will star in MTC’s The Other Place, which begins previews Tuesday, December 11 and will open Thursday, January 10. The production is directed by Tony Award winner Joe Mantello. A long-time stage actress in both Chicago and New York, Metcalf is best known for her 9-year stint as Aunt Jackie on ROSEANNE. She has also guest starred on DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES and THE BIG BANG THEORY.
