Kelsey Grammer to Develop NBC Crime Drama PARIAH

By:

Deadline reports that NBC is developing a new crime drama series PARIAH, inspired by Steven Levitt and Stephen Dubner's best selling book 'Freakonomics'. Kelsey Grammer, who currently stars in the Starz political thriller 'Boss', will executive produce the series for the network.

The project, written by Law & Order:SVU scribe Kevin Fox, will be a police procedural and will feature characters who were inspired by the economic-themed book. It will follow the Mayor of San Diego who appoints a rogue academic with no law enforcement background to head up a task force using "Freakonomics-inspired alternative methods of policing." Chaos ensues within the police department as the newly appointed leader solves crimes using these controversial methods.

Grammer's Grammnet Prods will produce with Lionsgate Television, the studio who also works on 'Boss.' 'Pariah'  joins a list of recently announced NBC projects in development for the 2013-14 television season including a sitcom from Seth Meyers and a drama from The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel writer Ol Parker.
