According to The Hollywood Reporter, Josh McDermitt (Retired at 35) has signed on for AMC's THE WALKING DEAD as 'Dr. Eugene Porter'.

In Robert Kirkman's comic series for Image/Skybound, Porter is former high school science teacher traveling with sports coach and Army Sgt. Abraham Ford -- still un-cast in the TV series -- and Rosita, who will be played by Christian Serratos. The group eventually crosses paths with Rick and they team up. Porter, however, lies that he knows what caused the zombie outbreak to ensure Abraham, Rosita and the rest of the group's continued protection.

"We're going to tell a version of Eugene, Abraham and Rosita comic stories, that's what we do, " Scott Gimple said. "I love these characters from the book, they are very different flavors of comic book characters than we've seen on the show."

In addition to TV Land's Retired at 35, McDermitt has appeared on TV in Work It, the pilot Kings of Van Nuys for ABC, Last Comic Standing and more.

THE WALKING DEAD returns for season four tomorrow, Sunday, October 13 at 9/8c on AMC.
