BBC News reports that John Oliver will be leaving his post on Comedy Central's The Daily Show to serve as host of an HBO weekly talk show. The Sunday night news show will premiere in 2014.

"When we saw John Oliver host The Daily Show, we knew his singular perspective and distinct voice belonged on HBO," said the network's Michael Lombardo. Oliver called his new hosting gig, "incredibly excited" adding, "I presume I get free HBO now".

The talented writer recently filled in for Daily Show host Jon Stewart, who took off the summer to direct his first feature film. The summer episodes of the show were a hit with both critics and nightly ratings, and delivered strong results in the coveted young male demographic of 18-34 years old.

Said Oliver, who joined The Daily Show as a writer back in 006, "I want to thank Comedy Central, and everyone at The Daily Show for the best seven and a half years of my life. But most of all, I'd like to thank Jon Stewart. He taught me everything I know. In fact, if I fail in the future, it's entirely his fault."

Oliver can currently be seen in a recurring story arc on NBC's Community, portraying a psychology professor. He also hosts a stand-up series on Comedy Central.
