Jim Parsons Joins Britney Spears as Honoree At This Years GLAAD Media Awards

According to Entertainment Weekly, Jim Parsons has been announced as the latest honoree at this years GLAAD Media Awards. Parsons joins previously announced Britney Spears who is also being honored.

GLAAD announced today that Parsons will receive the Stephen F. Kolzak Award at the 29th annual ceremony, in recognition of his work advancing LGBTQ stories in Hollywood and on Broadway. The honor is named for the legendary casting director Kolzak, who sought to raise awareness in the entertainment industry about discrimination faced by LGBTQ people and those living with HIV. Previous honorees include Laverne Cox, Ellen DeGeneres, and Ian McKellen.

In a statement, GLAAD President and CEO Sarah Kate Ellis said, "Jim Parsons' talent, humor, and impressive body of work have made him one of the most visible and beloved out LGBTQ actors today. Parsons not only proudly tells LGBTQ stories through his roles, but also works behind the camera with his husband Todd to tell LGBTQ stories that raise the bar for Hollywood and inspire acceptance."

The actor joins Spears, who was previously announced as this year's GLAAD Vanguard Award recipient. GLAAD also announced Special Recognition Awards for the JAY-Z track "Smile" featuring his mother Gloria Carter, who used the song to come out as a lesbian, and for the animated short film In a Heartbeat.

Parsons will receive his award at the 29th annual GLAAD Media Awards in Los Angeles at Beverly Hilton on April 12. More awards will be given out at a ceremony in New York City on May 5.

Parsons' theater credits include An Act of God (Broadway, Studio 54), Harvey (Broadway, Roundabout at Studio 54), THE NORMAL HEART (Broadway, Golden Theatre; Theatre World Award nominee), Merton of the Movies (Broadway, Roundabout at Studio 54), The Castle (Manhattan Ensemble Theater), The Countess (San Diego, Globe Theater), The Tempest and As You Like It (Houston Shakespeare Festival).

Television credits include "The Big Bang Theory" (Four-time Emmy winner, Golden Globe Award winner, Critics' Choice winner and SAG nominee), "The Normal Heart" (Emmy nominee), and "Elf: Buddy's Musical Christmas." He is an Executive Producer of "Young Sheldon," a prequel to "The Big Bang Theory," where he also does the voiceover as adult Sheldon. Film credits include the Oscar nominated film Hidden Figures, Home (Dreamworks Animation, 2015), Visions, Wish I Was Here, Garden State and School for Scoundrels.

He recently produced and narrated the 3-part docu-series, "First in Human," which aired on the Discovery Channel. He can also be heard on his SIRIUS XM Radio talk show, "Jim Parsons Is Too Stupid for Politics." Parsons will next appear in the film, A Kid Like Jake, alongside Claire Danes and Octavia Spencer. Parsons also serves as a producer for the film with Todd Spiewak, through their shingle, That's Wonderful Productions, along with Eric Norsoph.
