CBS News National Correspondent Jim Axelrod speaks with Billy Beane, the general manager of the Oakland A's Major League Baseball team. The report will be broadcast tonight, Oct. 8 on the CBS EVENING NEWS WITH SCOTT PELLEY (6:30-7:00 PM, ET) on the CBS Television Network.

In tonight's report, Beane discusses the "Moneyball" phenomenon that seems to have struck the Oakland A's once again. The team is the poorest of all of Major League Baseball and was pegged to finish last in its division. Instead, the Oakland A's finished first and is now in the playoffs. Axelrod also speaks with players Johnny Gomes and Brandon Miss about Beane's ability to build a winning team on a tight budget.

Brad Pitt played Beane in the film "Moneyball," which is based on the bestselling book. "Moneyball" is the story of how Beane used a statistical formula to find winners among baseball's discards.
