James Gandolfini to Be Honored Posthumously at Gotham Film Awards

The late actor James Gandolfini will be honored posthumously at the 23rd annual Gotham Independent Film Awards on December 2 according to The Hollywood Reporter. Forest Whitaker, Richard Linklater and Katherine Oliver will also received honors at the event.

The award will be presented by Gandolfini's Sopranos co-star Steve Buscemi will present the special tribute at New York's Cipriani Wall Street. Said Buscemi, "James Gandolfini was a friend, an inspiration and an extraordinary talent whose presence is missed by all of us who knew and loved him. It is an honor to present this tribute at the Gotham Awards recognizing his impact."

"We are honored to pay tribute to a man whose life and work has inspired and moved so many who knew him personally or through his vast body of work on the stage and screen where he collaborated with so many independent artists to bring to life unforgettable, iconic characters," said Joana Vicente, executive director of the IFP and the Made in New York Media Center.

Gandolfini's big screen credits include the upcoming Animal Rescue, as well as The Incredible Burt Wonderstone, Zero Dark Thirty, In the Loop, All the King's Men, The Mexican, Fallen, 12 Angry Men, Get Shortly, and more.

He appeared on Broadway in God of Carnage for which he was Tony-nominated in 2009, and then reprised the role in 2011 in LA. He also appeared in On the Waterfront and made his Broadway debut with Jessica Lange and Alec Baldwin in A Streetcar Named Desire.
