One of the most profitable and critically acclaimed horror movies in recent years is set to become a franchise.

It was just announced this evening that 2011's INSIDIOUS will receive a sequel, with writer Leigh Whannell, director James Wan, and stars Rose Byrne and Patrick Wilson all to return. INSIDIOUS CHAPTER 2, distributed by FilmDistrict, is set for a theatrical release on August 30, 2013.

INSIDIOUS followed two parents (Wilson and Byrne) whose son becomes possessed by demons, and how the family confronts and survives the haunting. No concrete details have yet been released about the sequel's plot.

The first film cost just $1.5 million to produce, and brought in $97 million worldwide - making a sequel seemingly a no brainer for Sony Pictures, who purchased the US rights to second installment in the now apparent franchise.

No release date or additional casting has been announced at this time. TalkMovies World will keep you up to date as more details emerge on INSIDIOUS CHAPTER 2.
