HISTORY Kicks Off 'Civil War Week' Across Digital Platforms

HISTORY® announces the kick-off of Civil War Week across digital platforms - a multi week campaign commemorating the 150th anniversaries of the end of the American Civil War and the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln.

Beginning Wednesday, April 8th, HISTORY® Digital will produce a series of original articles offering a unique view of these two seminal events, and will release an updated version of its award-wining The Civil War Today iPad app, featuring more than four years of daily Civil War content. New content will be supplemented by HISTORY's extensive collection of Civil War videos, mobile apps, articles, interactives, photo galleries and more.

In addition, on Tuesday, April 7th and 14th, History Channel will premiere Blood and Glory: The Civil War In Color, a four-part documentary series as never seen before. With unprecedented access to government and private archives and using state-of-the-art technology, over 500 rare and compelling black and white photographs have been painstakingly colorized to illustrate the story of the Civil War in breathtaking detail.

An iTunes App of the Week selection and a member of the iTunes App Essentials Hall of Fame, the redesigned Civil War Today app features a new interface that allows users to access more than four years of daily content, by either choosing a specific date during the conflict or navigating through a custom list of 30 of the most important events of the war. This App is an encyclopedia of the war organized by day.

A four-part documentary series with over 500 rare and compelling black and white photographs which have been painstakingly colorized to illustrate the story of the Civil War in breathtaking detail. Descendants of Frederick Douglass, General Ulysses S. Grant and Confederate President Jefferson Davis along with Retired U.S. Army Generals David Petraeus and Colin Powell; former senator, Carol Moseley-Braun; scholars, Allen Guelzo, James Oakes and George Rable; and Civil War historians Richard Dreyfuss and Ben Stein, among others, describe pivotal events that led America into bloody conflict, the impact of state-of-the-art weaponry and technology, the tragic and unimaginable cost of combat, and the struggle to rebuild a life and a country after the war between the states had ended.
