HBO REAL SPORTS WITH BRYANT GUMBEL has been named a winner of a prestigious 2016 Alfred I. duPont-Columbia University Broadcast Journalism Award. This marks the third time Real Sports has been honored with a duPont (2006 & 2012). Real Sports is the only sports television program to berecognized with three duPont Awards for broadcast excellence.

The annual awards -- announced today by Columbia University for excellence in journalism -- recognizes Real Sports for its compelling report on Qatar, which examined the eye-opening conditions migrant workers were subjected to in constructing soccer stadiums for the 2022 World Cup, allegations of bribery scandals and the country's suspected ties to terrorism in the Middle East and around the world. Correspondent David Scott and producer Josh Fine traveled to the tiny Middle Eastern nation for the first-hand account and to explore the massive financial commitment made by Qatar in an effort to build an Olympic caliber athletic empire.

"We're enormously proud of the work David & Josh did in putting their report together," said host Bryant Gumbel. "It's wonderful to see them recognized, and gratifying to see Real Sports honored yet again for the thoughtful and objective perspective that we're committed to applying to the world of sports."

The duPont Awards ceremony will take place on Tuesday, January 20, 2016, at Columbia University's Low Memorial Library.
