HBO Gives Series Order to THE RIGHTEOUS GEMSTONES

Danny McBride's comedy series, "The Righteous Gemstones," has been given a series order by HBO, according to Variety.

The series about a family of televangelistsc comes from McBride and his collaborators Jody Hill and David Gordon Green. Hill and Green will executive produce and direct while McBride wrote the script and serves as executive producer, director and co-star. The series also stars John Goodman.

"The Righteous Gemstones" is described as revolving around a family "with a long tradition of deviance, greed, and charitable work, all in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ."

Goodman plays Eli Gemstone, a TV preacher known for his "aggressive salvation techniques." McBride plays his eldest son, Jesse Gemstone, and heir to the throne.

The series also stars Edi Patterson, Adam Devine, Cassidy Freeman, Tony Cavalero, Tim Baltz and GregAlan Williams.

This series is the third HBO comedy to come from the creative team of McBride, Hill and Green, who previously produced "Eastbound and Down" and "Vice Principals" for the channel.
