Deadline writes that Emily Watson is the latest actress to sign on for Lifetime's MARILYN miniseries, starring Kelli Garner and Susan Sarandon.

Read the original report here.

The series, based on J. Randy Taraborrelli's book titled "The Secret Life of Marilyn Monroe", will be written by Stephen Kronish ("The Kennedys", "24"), with Laurie Collyer set to direct. Garner will take on the title role, with Susan Sarandon as Monroe's mentally ill mother, Gladys.

Watson will play 'Graece McKee', described as "the high-spirited, loving guardian to young Norma Jeane Mortenson who instilled in the lonely girl the dream of becoming a star, despite Gladys' objections."

Lifetime's official description of the series reads: "Marilyn is both the personification of sex, whose first marriage ironically collapses because of her frigidity, and a fragile artist who seeks the approval and protection of men. But after tumultuous marriages with Joe DiMaggio and Arthur Miller, she realizes she has the strength to stand on her own. She becomes the face and voice of an era, yet wants most of all to be someone's mother and someone's little girl. She's the Marilyn you haven't seen before, the artist who, by masking the truth with an image, gives her greatest performance."

Among Watson's upcoming big screen projects are Little Boy, Molly Moon: The Incredible Hypnotist, Girls' Night Out and Everest. She recently appeared in Testament of Youth, The Theory of Everything, The Book Thief, Belle, Some Girl(s), Anna Karenina, War Horse and more.
