ESPN Deportes to Offer Comprehensive Coverage of the 2017 Major League Baseball Season

Coming off the heels of its telecast of the 2017 World Baseball Classic, ESPN DEPORTES will kickoff its coverage of the 2017 Major League Baseball season. Opening Week coverage begins on Monday, April 3 with up-to 12 hours of un-interrupted action featuring the New York Mets home opener against the Atlanta Braves at 1 p.m. ET, followed by San Diego Padres at Los Angeles Dodgers at 4 p.m. ET, Cleveland Indians at Texas Rangers at 7 p.m. ET and Los Angeles Angels at Oakland Athletics at 10 p.m. ET.

Throughout the season, ESPN DEPORTES will follow unique storylines of interest to the Latino fans. Highlights include:

  • Texas Rangers Adrian Beltre's quest to become the 31st member of the 3,000 hits club. The third baseman could set another record by becoming the first Dominican-born player to enter the exclusive club
  • This season brings Atlanta Braves pitcher Bartolo Colón closer to reaching two milestones - he could break the record for wins among Dominican-born players - 243 wins and currently held by Hall of Fame pitcher Juan Marichal - and he could become the winningest Latin American pitcher - a record Dennis Martinez currently holds with 245 wins
  • Los Angeles Angels first baseman Albert Pujols enters the season just nine homeruns away from reaching the 600th career milestone
  • The network will follow the new generation of Latino players - New York Yankees Gary Sánchez, Chicago White Sox Yoan Moncada, San Diego Padres Manuel Margot, Houston Astros Yulieski Gurriel, Jose Berríos of the Minnesota Twins and Jorge Alfaro of the Philadelphia Phillies - as they look to make their mark in the game
  • "Un Día en el Parque 3" (A Day at the Park, Season 3) - In its third season, the 30-minute, two-part series will give fans an opportunity to go behind-the-scenes and explore some MLB's most legendary stadiums
  • Beisbol Esta Noche will feature two special editions: "Colombia, Sueño Cumplido" giving fans a look at the history of baseball in Colombia and "Exploring Cooperstown"

TV Highlights:

  • Ernesto Jerez (play-by-play), Luis Alfredo Alvarez (analysis) and Guillermo Celis (sideline reporter), will return as the core commentator team. Carolina Guillén, WORLD SERIES Champion manager Ozzie Guillén (no relation) and former Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Ismael Valdez, will co-host ESPN Deportes' pregame show Béisbol Esta Noche. Baseball insider Enrique Rojas will focus on covering exclusive stories and breaking news throughout the season
  • ESPN Deportes will provide coverage of up to 90 games: up to 60 television and WatchESPN, up to 26 on ESPNDeportes+, ESPN DEPORTES digital channel available on ESPN3
  • ESPN Deportes' MLB coverage is also available on computers, smartphones and tablets via WatchESPN.
