Dominic Monaghan Cast in STAR WARS: EPISODE IX

Dominic Monaghan is joining Star War: Episode IX, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

This casting news reunites the LOST star with Star Wars director J.J. Abrams. Monaghan starred as Charlie Pace on the ABC show from 2004-2010, which Abrams produced. Besides LOST, Monaghan is best known for his role as Merry in Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings trilogy.

Monaghan's role in Episode IX is unknown.

The film began prodcution earlier this month. The cast includes Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong'o, Domhnall Gleeson, Kelly Marie Tran, Joonas Suotamo and Billie Lourd. Original Star Wars actors returning include Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels and Billy Dee Williams. Carrie Fisher will appear as Leia thanks to unused footage from the first installment in the trilogy, The Force Awakens.

New stars appearing in Episode IX include Naomi Ackie, Logan actor Richard E. Grant and Keri Russell.

Star Wars: Episode IX will open on Dec. 20, 2019.
