Chris Evans is Officially Done as CAPTAIN AMERICA

Chris Evans has officially hung up his shield, says The Hollywood Reporter.

"Officially wrapped on Avengers 4. It was an emotional day to say the least. Playing this role over the last 8 years has been an honor. To everyone in front of the camera, behind the camera, and in the audience, thank you for the memories! Eternally grateful," Evans tweeted. See the tweet below!

Evans, who played Johnny Storm in the early 2000s "Fantastic Four" films, first played Steve Rogers in 2011's "Captain America: The First Avenger."

He would go on to play the star-spangled man in "The Avengers,"" Captain America: The Winter Soldier," "Avengers: Age of Ultron," "Captain America: Civil War," and Avengers: Infinity War.

In the comics, Steve Rogers has been replaced in the past by characters who exist in the Marvel Cinematic Uuniverse such as Bucky Barnes aka the Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan) and Sam Wilson aka the Falcon (Anthony Mackie). It's possible that Evans will not be the last Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Evans' final appearance as Captain America will be in Avengers 4, which is currently untitled. The writers of Avengers 4 have said there will be much more of the hero in the next installment, as fans were left with a lack of Cap in last spring's "Avengers: Infinity War."

Avengers 4 opens May 3, 2019.
