British actress Carey Mulligan is in negotiations to star in the action thriller Drive, according to The Hollywood Reporter. If cast, the Education star will join Ryan Gosling, who's already attached to the project. Breaking Bad's Bryan Cranston is also said to be in negotiations to join the cast.

Based on the James Sallis novel, Drive will be directed by Nicolas Winding Refn (Valhalla Rising, Bronson). The novel focusses on a Hollywood stuntman (Gosling) who also serves as a wheelman during robberies. Mulligan would play the girfriend of an ex-con who winds up in the passanger seat during the getaway of a robbery gone wrong.

The adaptation - produced by OddLot Entertainment, Marc Platt Prods. and Bold Films - will start shooting next month in Los Angeles.

Mulligan made her Broadway debut playing an aspiring young actress in The Seagull. The Oscar-nominee plays Shia Labeouf's love interest in the upcoming Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps.
