FRUITVALE STATION's Ryan Coogler will helm the project, which is set to begin production in January of 2015. The project will be filmed in Philadelphia, the setting for the original ROCKY films.

CREED centers on the grandson of Apollo Creed. Michael B. Jordan will star as the grandson, Adonis Creed, who is being mentored by Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone). Bellew would play Creed's nemesis, Pretty Ricky Porter. No word yet on who Ward would portray.

Other characters expected to be featured are Adonis's deaf half-sister, a potential romantic interest for Adonis, a character named Joe who co-owns Mickey's gym with Rocky, a former boxer named Pete, and a "Mickey-like" character named Marcel, who's Latino and assists with Adonis's training.

Ward is a super-middleweight division World Boxing Association champion. Bellew is a former heavyweight Amateur Boxing Association of England champion and a former light heavyweight champion for the Commonwealth league in Britain.
