Black Lives Matter Inspired Netflix Drama On the Way

According to CNN, the Black Lives Matter movement serves as inspiration for the upcoming Netflix Drama 'Seven Seconds' written by Veena Sud. The show also focuses on the the flaws of the justice system and how this contributed to the start of the Black Lives Matter movement.

"One of the most provocative things for me watching all these killings happen on television and in our national fabric is, over and over and over hearing and seeing these young people, whether its Tamir Rice or Michael Brown or Trayvon Martin left on the ground for so long," Sud told CNN. "It was the right time to start thinking [about] how to tell this story and make that attempt and open that door," she also explained. "But that's really where it all started for me -- turning on the TV and seeing what was happening every night in America."

'Seven Seconds' is an anthological crime drama produced by Netflix and FOX 21 Television Studios that is centered around the death of a young African American teenager and the racial tensions that arise once the cover up of his death is discovered. The 15 year old is hit and left to die by a car driven by an off-duty police officer which shakes the New Jersey town while tensions rise. The show stars Regina King (American Crime), Clare0Hope Asey (Suspects), and Beau Knapp (The Signal). The first season of 'Seven Seconds' consisting of 10 episodes will debut on Netflix on February 23rd.
