Variety writes that Bill Paxton has signed on for the indie thriller NIGHTCRAWLER, directed by Dan Gilroy and starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Rene Russo. The film is set to begin production in October.

NIGHTCRAWLER follows "a driven young man (Gyllenhaal) who discovers the nocturnal world of L.A. freelance crime journalism." No word on what role Paxton will be playing.

Gilroy is also producing the dark indie flick alongside Gyllenhaal. The film marks Gilroy's directorial debut. He reviously co-wrote The Bourne Legacy with his brother, Tony Gilroy.

Paxton just finished work on Million Dollar Arm. His other upcoming projects include Edge of Tomorrow, Red Wing, and the TV series To Appomattox. He is currently appearing in 2 Guns, in theaters now. Paxton produced Parkland, one of the premieres at TIFF. His past screen credits include Hatfields & McCoys, Big Love, Haven, Tombstone, Titanic, Twister, True Lies, Alien, The Terminator and more.
