According to Variety, Beyonce Knowles has left Clint Eastwood's remake of A Star Is Born, which is still on the search for a male lead. Sources told Variety that because the film had no start date, this made the scheduling difficult for the already busy singer.

Beyonce would have played the role previously portrayed by Barbra Streisand in the 1976 version—a performer who falls in love with an older star, whose career is diminishing.

Word is that Eastwood is considering jazz artist Esperanza Spaulding to fill the void left by Beyonce, but next steps will not be taken until the starring male has been cast. Under consideration have been Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Cruise, Christian Bale, Johnny Depp and Bradley Cooper.

Will Fetters wrote the script, and Jon Peters, Bill Gerber and Basil Iwanyk are producing.
