As BroadwayWorld reported, earlier reports of Alec Baldwin's departure from the upcoming big screen adaptation of ROCK OF AGES may be inaccurate. The star had been said to have withdrawn for unspecified personal reasons, but New Line Cinema announced yesterday that Alec Baldwin has not pulled out of the film. The Hollywood Reporter revealed that accrding to the studio, Baldwin "has a personal issue that is expected to resolve so he can do the movie, which begins shooting May 23."

Deadline.com reports today that Alec Baldwin is currently on site in Miami for the film's first read through. He joins additional cast members Tom Cruise, Julianne Hough, Diego Gonzalez Boneta, Russell Brand, Mary J. Blige, Paul Giamatti, Malin Akerman and Bryan Cranston. (Additional cast member Catherine Zeta-Jones is on location shooting The Field so is not present in Miami today).

Baldwin had been announced to play nightclub owner Dennis Dupree in the flick.

In related news, THR revealed that Rock of Ages film director Adam Shankman has moved his Production Company from Disney to New Line. The move was tied up in legal negotiations for several weeks. To read the full article, click here.

ROCK OF AGES opened on April 7, 2009 at Broadway's Brooks Atkinson Theatre to critical acclaim, following an off Broadway engagement in the fall of 2008. The Broadway production was nominated for Five 2009 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, and New Line Records released the Original Broadway Cast Recording in July 2009, featuring 28 songs from the show. The New Line Cinema/Warner Bros. film of the musical, directed by Adam Shankman (Hairspray), was originally scheduled to be released in 2011. As previously reported, a new release date has now been set for the film: June 1, 2012.

The music that 'ignited a generation' is heating up Broadway in ROCK OF AGES. The classic rock love story of the decade erupts into Broadway's best party, all to the sounds of such feel-good, sing-out-loud songs as Every Rose Has Its Thorn, I Wanna Know What Love Is, Here I Go Again, Don't Stop Believin' and more. This five-time Tony nominated musical is nothin' but a good time.
